Hello Seahorse!

So there is a girl that I work with. She is Hispanic. She doesn't really talk to me.......until today.

We had a long conversation on music today. I shared some bands and artists with her that I really like, she did the same. She told me about SEVERAL different bands that she listens to, all of them being Spanish. The one that stuck out the most to me is Hello Seahorse! Such a mellow band. Very soothing. I haven't stopped listening to them since we left work. I literally cannot get this stuff out of my head. So here is Hello Seahorse! I hope it infects you in the same it infected me. lol

This post is for my little brother Ben, who recently discovered how awesome Iron & Wine is, and subsequently how awesome I am.

I know it's been a while since my last post but hopefully this one will make up for it.

I first heard Iron & Wine when he covered the Postal Service's "Such Great Heights"

After I heard this song I went out and bought his album "Our Endless Numbered Days", and have been listening to him ever since. My all time favorite song from I & W is called "Flightless Bird, American Mouth"

And apparently this song was on the Twilight soundtrack.....hopefully not but w/e.

The Future Of Music

I feel like that's a pretty BOLD topic. I hope the content can hold up.

I listen to a lot of music from a lot of different genres, and it takes a lot to really just wow me. I don't just mean catch my attention, we are talking jaw to the floor, stop what I'm doing and devote all of my attention and emotion and senses to what is playing through my speakers. These next two guys really know what good music is. They are so young and have so much soul. The first time I listened to them I could have sworn I was hearing unreleased Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, or Sammy Davis Jr songs. These two give me a positive outlook on where the future of music is going. ALL HOPE IS NOT LOST!!!!!

You should have known Mika was going to make this list. lol. Rolling Stone has hailed him as the new Freddie Mercury...minus the whole dying of AIDS thing.

Mika ft. Imogen Heap - "By The Time"

Still waiting for the Child Rebel Soldier album to come out. CRS is Lupe Fiasco, Pharrell Williams, and Kanye West. Not a huge Kanye fan but Lupe is one of my favorite rappers of all time. Lupe, Kanye, and Pharrell are rapping over Thom Yorke's "Erasure". Such a mellow track.

There are a few expletives in this one but definitely worth listening to.

Child Rebel Soldier - "Us Placers"

Come on, you knew I had to put Common on this one. This is real hip hop right here, lifting up and respecting women instead of constantly putting them down. We need more artist like Common.

Common ft Mary J Blige - "Come Close"

Part of me wants to see this band blow up and just become huge, the other part of me wants to keep them in my pocket and always be that "little band that I discovered".

The National - "Daughters of the Soho Riots"

This guy performs by the name Outsider. This song translates to "Alone/Loner". This is another Korean rapper who just bewilders me with his immense speed and passion. Right now Outsider is taking a break from music because he is suffering from a vocal chord nodule. I know it will be hard to keep up with what he is saying because he is so fast but I finally found a video that has English subtitles, so enjoy!

This guy performs under the name Nieve and his DJ is DJ Cook, together they form Nieve and Cook.....go figure. I listened to this song for about two months before I realized that Nieve is a white dude, lol. It was surprising to me that such a small white man had such a soulful vibe and such poeticism. This is such a mellow track, I hope you all can put it on repeat and just wind down after a long day at work. I give you "So Smooth" by Nieve and Cook

Ok I will end on this note. I have no doubt that this next guy will be compared to Tupac, KRS One, Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Nas, Lupe Fiasco, etc. This guy has so much talent and he is only nineteen. Hailing from Canada his name is Erik Flowchild and he will be a legend one day. This track is called "Over Here". If you haven't heard this before....you need to! This is such a laid back track. I could listen to it over and over again all day long and not get tired of it. While his lyricism is phenomenal, there are a few expletives in this one.....just letting you guys know.

Okay I have been thinking for a couple of days about what I want my first video post to be.

And I have decided that it needs to be Drunken Tiger.

I have been listening to a lot of Korean hip hop lately and this guy is easily one of my favorites.

I am a lover of ALL music, regardless of the genre. The most important thing to me is whether or not the artist is passionate about their music, and Drunken Tiger definitely is. This song is about his grandmother that passed away.
